Picture a high school classroom.
Chances are, you see a room full of desks, arranged in neat rows, facing a chalkboard.
A hundred years ago, that classroom would have looked nearly identical.
We live in the age of artificial intelligence, self-driving taxis, and blockchain. But our classrooms remain bound to a time-based system designed to deliver learning in 45-minute increments, preparing students for jobs that no longer exist.
That’s why XQ has been working with communities to reimagine what high school can be—relevant, engaging, interdisciplinary, and unconstrained by the walls of a school building.
Since 2015, XQ has worked side-by-side with school communities to build what are some of the most innovative and successful high schools in the country. These models show what is possible—our framework, tools, and resources are flexible enough to be customized to the unique needs of every school and strong enough to graduate students who are ready to succeed in life.
In every high school redesign, XQ works alongside a dynamic team of change makers – we collaborate with educators, students, families, policy makers, and community leaders. Together, we are bringing exciting solutions to the challenge of rethinking high school.

We’re getting students out of the classroom and into the community, where they can learn and contribute to solutions that matter.
We’re involving students in the design of their courses, where they learn through projects that reinforce core subjects with rigor.
We are rethinking how student progress is assessed. After all, the current system was designed over 100 years ago. Times have changed; why haven’t our schools?
Teachers and practitioners don’t just test our products–they make them. We rely on these experts to design, innovate, and refine our tools and resources in the classroom, in real time.
