A Calling: The Civil Right of Education

In October 2019, XQ Institute, in collaboration with Emerson Collective, United Negro College Fund, and The Gathering for Justice, convened 500 changemakers spanning five generations for A Calling: The Civil Right of Education. Over two days of inspiration, celebration, and collaboration, we honored the elders of the Civil Rights Movement and their legacy by highlighting how they set the stage for the next generation of activists. We collectively reflected on America’s history of race and power and explored the vital role education plays in our nation’s progress toward equity. An equity data walk—an immersive interactive experience to bear witness to the journey our young people take through our nation’s schools—fueled our collective resolve to act and renewed our commitment to the pursuit of equity in our nation’s schools.
