COVID-19 has impacted students at all grade levels. But COVID-19 has particularly impacted high school students, and they have less time than their younger peers to get where they need to go before leaving the K-12 public education system. There is an opportunity—indeed, a necessity—to mobilize around the future of high school students because their future as members of our workforce and our society begins in only a few short years. High schools require special attention given the urgency and time pressure high school students face.
Transforming a century-old high school system can’t be done with half measures. That’s why XQ is calling on every state and district in the country to spend a share of their federal COVID relief dollars at least proportionate to their high school population on long-term high school transformation.
