XQ Music and Activism Challenge Ft. Sol Development
We invited students (ages 13-21) to enter the first XQ #MakeASongChallenge for a chance to work with the Oakland-based hip hop and R&B quartet SOL Development. How? Students created an original song or lyric that touches on issues important to them.

SOL Development (Source of Light) is a hip hop, jazz, and soul ensemble that mirrors Nina Simone’s quintessential words: an artist’s duty is to reflect the times. The band offers music to illuminate today’s cultural and political climate, matching it with a sound that allows the listener to feel empowered in finding their own activism and healing. Based in Oakland California, members of the musical group SOL Development are Karega Bailey, Felicia Gangloff-Bailey, Lauren Adam, and Brittany Tanner.

2022 Student Journalism Challenge: My Education, My Future
The 2022 Student Journalism Challenge: My Education, My Future, is a journalism challenge run by PBS Student Reporting Labs and WETA and sponsored by XQ. This new challenge invites students nationwide to report on various topics that illustrate what their lives are like as students, and what matters most to them in their schools and communities.

Billboard Challenge
What big dreams do you have for the future of high school? We called on all students ages 13-21 to create a piece of visual art showing their vision for high school for the next generation. Their canvas? A 14’ x 48’ billboard. The prize? Seeing their art featured on a billboard in their community!
