Arne Duncan joined Emerson Collective as a managing partner and has since co-founded Chicago CRED—an organization tackling gun violence in Chicago’s South Side. Previously, Duncan served as the secretary of education in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2016 and chief executive officer of the Chicago Public Schools. Duncan graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1987 where he majored in sociology. From 1987 to 1991, Duncan played professional basketball in Australia’s National Basketball League. His wife, Karen, is a native of Australia. They have two children together, Claire and Ryan.
