XQ was proud to kick off the National Art Education Association’s 2022 National Convention in New York City on March 3rd, 2022. Founded in 1947, NAEA is the leading professional membership organization exclusively for visual arts, design, and media arts education professionals. Its members include thousands of educators teaching at the pre-k through college level, teaching artists, and researchers in all 50 states.
XQ’s Chief Creative and Strategy Officer Marc Ecko and Chief Program Officer Ursulina Ramirez opened the first general session. Their keynote presentation addressed the important role arts educators can play in redesigning high schools, so they can feel more relevant and engaging for all learners. They talked about mixing substance and creativity in a special recipe they call “Broccoli Cake.” Ecko and Ramirez were then joined by New Orleans artist Brandan “BMike” Odums and XQ’s Senior Education Policy Advisor Michele Cahill in a panel moderated by Beth Fertig, XQ’s Senior Education Editor.
